By using the fingerprint technology and the iris of the eye
Launching eGate Service under the sponsorship of General Directorate of Passports Department

At the headquarter of Directorate in Riyadh, at 2:00 pm, the General Directorate of Passports and Al-Elm Company convened a press conference regarding the "E-Gate" under the sponsorship of his honor, General Salim Ibn Muhammad Al-Belaihed, the Director Genera of the General Directorate of Passports. As a matter of fact, it was an initiative aiming at providing the best and quickest service for passengers depending on the smart cards identification technology, the fingerprint identification, and the iris of the eye. This is to fulfill the procedures of the passengers with no need to seal the passport or to check the ID by the passports employees; rather, this would be done using the biological characteristic of man "i.e. fingerprints and the iris of the eye".

The Executive Manger of Al-Elm Company, Pro Khaled Abdul-Aziz Al-Ghoneim has stated that:" Indeed, the E-Gate initiative launched in King Khaled International Airport is an important part of series of the electronic services done by Al-Elm Company. The Company team has designed the E-Gate system; the matter proves the continuous concern of the Company to provide specific services for the whole classes of the society. He also clarified: "This service is one of the technical systems which aim at fulfilling the recording of the coming and leaving swiftly, achieving more control over entry and exit to and from the kingdom, and achieving the central monitoring over such procedures.

He also added: "Launching this service is a part from the components of the electronic government adopted by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques government and applied by Al-Elm Company; as it is the leading company in the field of secure electronic solutions. This is to establish a technical society that supports and applies the modern technologies that are the distinguishing features of the current millennium. He pointed that: "The E-Gate puts an end to the traditional manner of finishing the procedures of passengers in arrival and departure halls inside King Khaled International Airport. Actually, now anybody holds a visa can go to the arrival hall No. 2 in king Khaled International Airport and record his data and biological characteristics (fingerprints and the iris of the eye) with the help of the passports employee where he could make a passing card supplied with his personal photo in order to let him pass the E-Gate with no need to seal the visa. He also emphasized: "The recording process is so easy, simple, and takes few minutes".

He pointed out: "Applying the E-Gate in King Khaled International Airport would save much time and effort for the passengers and would finish their procedures swiftly, confidentially, and safely. Moreover, this service would fulfill the requirements of a wide range of society, specifically, the businessmen who travel much. Due to the fact that, this service is one of the important features which allows every passenger to record his name only one time in the system where he would be automatically identified afterwards.

It is necessary for anyone wants to use the E-Gate to have the smart card firstly through visiting the recording center; where the passports employee checks his ID and then enters his biological characteristics (fingerprints and the iris of the eye) into the system. Afterwards, he gives him the card supplied with his personal photo which is taken immediately inside the center.

The passengers having such smart card can enter or exit the kingdom through the "E-Gate". This takes few steps; they should go to the E-Gate, put the card inside the electronic reader in order to open the forward rail of the gate, then the passengers enter to the automatic path, and then the system provides such path the necessary information in order to successfully fulfill the process (such process includes entering the flight information and checking the ID by the biological characteristics), after leaving the path, the system provides the passenger with a receipt automatically printed which includes the entry and exit information.

On his part, Pro Khaled Abdul-Aziz Al-Ghoneim, the Executive Manger of Al-Elm Company, has expressed his deep gratitude and appreciation of the efforts of the National Information Center which contributed in executing this service whose benefits and advantages would be provided for the country and society. He also expressed his thankfulness and appreciation to the Civil Aviation Authority and the Management of King Khaled International Airport in Riyadh for their great cooperation and efforts and the facilities they provided to achieve this distinct project aimed at providing the recording card for the E-Gate directly form the recording office of the Gate inside the airport.
